Round Top Festival Institute will once again present Tchaikovsky's holiday classic ballet, The Nutcracker. This year's production celebrates the 10th annual performance danced by Ovation Ballet Company, a youth ballet company in residency at Dancers Workshop in Austin. The legendary ballet will be one show only at the Round Top Festival Institute Concert Hall on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 4pm.
The performance of The Nutcracker will include a cast of 74 dancers ranging from 2nd grade through high school. The dancers are from Austin, Leander, Cedar Park, Round Rock, Liberty Hill, Burnet, Bryan, La Grange and Weimar, Texas. The dancers train throughout the week at Dancers Workshop in Austin and Saltare Studio in La Grange. The company rehearses as a group every Saturday starting in early September up until the performance.
Additional music from Tchaikovsky's famous score has been added to this year's production along with many new costumes and several sections of new choreography. The ballet includes dancing party guests, menacing rats, soldiers brandishing candy canes, graceful snowflakes, the handsome Nutcracker Prince and, the most famous holiday favorite, the Sugar Plum Fairy.
