Pioneer Camp activities that we are preparing are: butter churnin’ * facepaintin’, grindin’ and corn shellin’, an indian artifacts demonstration (includin’ arrowheads), sawin’ logs, washin’ clothes on an old wringer washing machine, observin’ a beekeeper, and so much more!

Pioneer Camp ~ 2018 ~ Students 8 years through 11 years - No Exceptions Please!

The Cost is $40.00 per child. Pioneer Camp T-Shirts are not required; however, they are available at an
additional cost. Snacks will be provide for each session provided your child doesn’t have allergies to food or drink. In that case, the parent will be responsible for bringing a snack and drink for their child each day.

REGISTRATION DAY BEGINS ON MAY 10, 2018-Beginning at 9:30AM -FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE

Pioneer Camp starts the Monday after July 4th and this year the dates are July 9-13, 2018 and July 16-20, 2018. Heritage Museum of Montgomery County hosts an event called “Pioneer Camp” for students from ages 8 - 11 (no exceptions, please). These five days are filled with information, activities, reenactments, projects, games, special guests and snacks all relating to the way pioneers lived, worked and played together.

Students who participated in the past enjoy hands-on activities such as:

  • Churning Butter
  • Bow and Arrow Demonstrations
  • Dipping Candles
  • One-Room Schoolhouse
  • Shucking, Grinding and Shelling corn
  • Washing clothes on Rub-boards
  • Cutting logs with a Two-man Saw
  • Beekeeping
  • Facepainting
  • Branding Leather
  • Playing Pioneer Games
  • The History of Planting Seeds
  • Basketweaving
