Carrollton’s Camp Wonder Summer Day Camp Begins Virtually in June

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 06/26/2020
Camp Wonder will be held in a half-day virtual format for the month of June from 12:30-4:30 p.m. at a reduced rate of $50 per child per week for residents and $55 for non-residents. The virtual offering in June consists of three one-week sessions with a different theme each week. The City is evaluating options for in-person, on-site camps later in the summer.

Campers will sign in via links emailed to their parents the Friday before each camp week. Once campers sign in, attendees will be divided into smaller groups in breakout rooms with a counselor leading each group. Each week, campers will participate in various creative activities, STEM projects, virtual field trips, and physical activities. A weekly schedule and FAQs will be included in each camp supply bag, and a parent packet of information can be downloaded at cityofcarrollton.com/campwonder. Themes planned for the complete summer schedule include Ready, Set, Go!, Explore Nature, We Are All Superheroes, Christmas in July, All Ball, Buggin’ Out, Under the Sea, Hawaiian Luau, and Mystery Week.

Camp supply bags for each week-long camp will be available for pickup at Crosby Recreation Center on the Friday and Saturday before each camp begins. A drive-thru service will be set up between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Friday and between 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday. Parks & Recreation staff will place the supply package into the trunk of the car. Additionally, all supplies will be packaged by camp staff wearing masks and gloves.

“The Parks & Recreation Department continually seeks new and better ways to engage the community with rewarding experiences especially during these changing times,” Carrollton Parks & Recreation Director Scott Whitaker said. “Camp Wonder offers recreation, education, and an opportunity to have fun, meet other kids, and develop new friendships along the way.”

Camp Wonder will have an average staff-to-participant ratio of 1:15. Carrollton Parks & Recreation continuously strives to create an environment in which all participants with or without special needs feel safe, secure, and without obstacles to participate in any program. If your child needs additional accommodations, call 972-466-4862 at least two weeks prior to start of camp.

Registration for Camp Wonder opens Thursday, May 28 for residents and non-residents. Visit cityofcarrollton.com/signupnow under the Summer Camp section or call 972-466-9816 to get signed up for a summer of fun. The registration deadline for each week of camp is seven days prior to the start day, and payment is due in full at the time of registration.

Camp Wonder operates with a state-approved licensing exemption and follows City Council-approved Standards of Care. Financial assistance for all Carrollton Parks & Recreation classes, programs, and facility fees is available for qualifying residents.
