EPC Juneteenth Celebration: Celebrating Our Legacy, Bridging Future Generations

Emancipation Park is a scared jewel founded in 1872 by freed former slaves. The community, led by 4 young men, gathered $800 to purchase the 10 acres of land for the African American community as a space to celebrate their freedom. On June 19, 1865 ‘Juneteenth,’ Texas slaves learned of their freedom. African Americans, including those in Freedmen’s Town, would congregate at Emancipation Park due to being barred from using public parks per segregation laws. Present day, we still celebrate Juneteenth and want the community to celebrate with us!
