Shopping, telling time, puzzles and patterns – it’s math mayhem out there! The fun at theChildren’s Museum of Houstonwill be immeasurable forHome School Day. On February 9,the Museum will open exclusively for home school families to explore a variety of exciting exhibits and to be challenged by our educational programming centered on this week’sMath Mayhemcelebration.
For one day only, the Children’s Museum of Houston offers Home School students unlimited access to all 14-galleries of non-stop, action packed fun. Home School students will explore science, technology, history, culture, health, environment and engineering hands-on at the ultimate Playground for your Mind™! Pre-registration is required.
ON-GOING ACTIVITIES:
- Spirographs: Spin a colorful geometric vision of patterns and designs at Alexander Art Academy.
- Honeycombs and Hexagons: Hook up hexagons to create your own honey comb at EcoStation.
- Building with Geometry: Design domed and curved buildings at Inventors’ Workshop.
- Money Tree: Study world currencies to inspire your own money bill at Junktion.
- Time-Telling: Make your own analog clock and practice this vital math skill at Junktion.
- Tangram Zoo: Make animal shapes presented by using only seven shapes in Junktion.
- Achi: Strategize to be the first player to make 3 in a row at ExxonMobil Math Cart.
- Circle Logic: Take the last playing piece off the board and win at ExxonMobil Math Cart.
- Simple (Machine) Logic: Learn about resistance, balance and levers at Science Station.
- Cat, Mouse and Beans: Unlock the mystery of magnetism in this logic game at Science Station.
- Computer Logic and Computer Speak: Program a computer to “think” in Science Station.
- “The Math Curse” Movie: Follow a girl’s zany train of thought at Brown Auditorium.
- “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed”by Eileen Christelow: Help five naughty monkeys’ mama count them off to sleep during interactive story time at Parent Resource Library.
