Houston’s story began along the banks of Buffalo Bayou, forging a powerful maritime connection that links Texas to the world. Today, the Houston Maritime Center & Museum brings that story to life as a dynamic cultural destination, connecting visitors with the people, history, and innovations shaping our maritime world.
 
After nearly two years of reimagining and construction, in August 2025, the Houston Maritime Center & Museum opened in a brand-new, modern space within the historic East End. With panoramic views of Downtown Houston and direct access to Buffalo Bayou Partnership’s Hike and Bike Trail extension, the museum blends Houston’s rich maritime heritage with a contemporary, community-focused vision.
 
Highlights include:

• Curated Exhibits from around the world: Step into the museum and embark on a journey from ancient mariners to modern-day maritime marvels. Featuring hundreds of artifacts and model ships spanning the decades.
• Flexible Event Spaces: Looking for a unique venue for your next event? Set amongst the backdrop of the Houston skyline and immersed within the historic artifacts, we provide an extraordinary setting for corporate meetings, networking receptions, and private social events for up to 180 guests.
• Interactive Children’s Zone: Hands-on activities like knot-tying, Buffalo Bayou BRIO table, and a scavenger hunt leading you to a prize at the Treasure Chest!
• Texas Navy Theater: Educational films showcasing Houston’s maritime history.
• Learning Center & Gallery: Seats up to 40 guests and showcases a rotating gallery of local Houston artists.
• Gift Shop:  Features a thoughtful assortment of maritime-themed apparel, books, toys, and more.
