Surrogate Mother Requirements

What is Surrogacy?

Surrogacy is a modern and growing means of bringing new life into the world, where a woman carries a baby for another person or a couple. The intended parents undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF), meaning fertilization outside of the body, to transfer an embryo into the surrogate mother’s uterus. In our work at ConceiveAbilities, surrogates are not genetically or legally related to the baby and are compensated for their time and service by the intended parents. In 2018, more than 10,000 births took place by surrogate in the United States, and the market is steadily growing at 15% per year based on data from the Centers for Disease Control. And, in the past ten years, the percentage of all IVF transfers that took place with a gestational carrier grew from just over 1% to 4.8%.

What Are Surrogate Requirements?

In order to ensure that surrogacy can be a healthy and successful experience for you, the basic requirements include your age, your experience with prior deliveries, and your medical history.

The basic requirements include

  • Have you given birth before?
    • A history of at least one full-term, health and uncomplicated pregnancy is essential to ensuring your surrogacy journey is healthy and successful.
  • How old are you?
    • At the time you are matched with intended parents, you should be between 21 and 40 years of age.
  • Where do you live?
    • Compensated surrogacy is legal in most, but not all states. And, certain locations are highly valued by intended parents and you can earn higher compensation.
  • Are you a long-term US resident?
    • The surrogacy journey is lengthy and is accomplished only by working with a US-based IVF clinic.
  • Are you physically healthy?
    • You must have an uncomplicated medical history, not be over- or under-weight, not currently smoke, and be free of certain chronic conditions.
  • Are you emotionally healthy?
    • Your surrogacy journey is demanding and requires a stable foundation in your life without undue stress.

New Fall Educational Workshops at The Woodlands Children’s Museum
The Woodlands Children's Museum

The Woodlands Children’s Museum will offer Fall Workshops from August through December 2022, including two new classes and several longtime favorites. Workshops are offered year-round at the museum as part of its mission to create opportunities that educate, empower and excite children and families through play.

“Show me a tree!”   “Show me thunder!”

The new Show Me workshop premiering this Fall is an energetic introduction to movement dance and imagination. The class will explore performance art through pretend play and introduce children to various types of music and movement. Designed for children ages 2 and 3, the workshop will meet on Thursdays from 9:30am – 10:00am.

Also new this year is Robotics and Beyond, an enrichment program using the LEGO® Mindstorms® Education platform. This workshop introduces young engineers to basic building and mechanical principles by using motors, sensors, gears, wheels, axles and various technical components to create robots. Children will also explore how technology can work in real-world applications. Designed for children ages 7-10, the workshop meets on Thursdays from 10:00am – 12:00pm or from 4:15pm – 6:15pm.

Unique to the museum’s workshop offerings is Wonderseum, a school-year program designed for 4-year-olds that offers an environment for discovery and learning through play. Limited to only 10 students to allow educators an opportunity to engage with each student, children enjoy guided explorations of culture through the arts, early literacy skills, math, science, music and other immersive hands-on experiences. New this year, the class will offer extended hours from 9:00am – 2:00pm. Children may register for the 2- day or 3- day a week program

Returning to the museum this Fall is the very popular Little Picassos workshop, which presents grown-ups and toddlers with activities that explore art as a learning experience. Using a variety
of mediums to create mini masterpieces and stimulate artistic imaginations, families share the “process” of art as a stimulus to engage discovery. Little Picassos meets on Wednesdays for 4-
week sessions.

The Scientifically ARTrageous workshop meets on Tuesdays for children ages 6-8. Combining the curiosity of science and the beauty of art, children discover and explore the combination of
art processes with science hypotheses and outcomes. Two 6-week sessions are available from 9:00am – 11:00am and are ideal for homeschool families.

School of Rock Performance-Based Music Programs Rock Socializing— With Social Distancing

Kids have been inspired in the School of Rock community for the last 8 and half years, learning music by playing music– together. Through programs designed for all skill levels, students go from lessons and rehearsal to performance– developing confidence, talent and teamwork skills along the way. Students, ages 7 to 18 engage in a private, one-on-one lesson. Those weekly lessons come with a bonus: the chance to be a rock star. Once enrolled, students become part of a band as well, and play in a socially distanced rehearsal each week. Bands are determined by skill level and age. They practice together for a season (about 4 months) and then play a show. This unique approach allows students to use what they learn from their teacher in the real-world setting of a band, comprised of their peers. They learn to rock on stage and in life.

School of Rock community members also have access to our one-of-a-kind, fully integrated Method app. The App provides an enhanced learning experience and reinforced practice schedule. Parents and students know what should be worked on and progress can be tracked.

Programs—Something For All Ages

Wonderseum for 4 year-olds
The Woodlands Children's Museum

What makes Wonderseum so unique? PLAY FIRST

Wonderseum was created to assist with the need for an expanded Mother’s Day Out program, providing pre-school objectives in our community. It was built on the belief that PLAY comes FIRST and that PLAY provides a secure environment for discovery and learning. Recognizing that 4 year-olds need social interaction and cognitive development, our program is offered 2 or 3 days a week with a class size of only 10, allowing our educators to have an abundance of time to engage with students.

This past year, our little “wonders” graduated on stage celebrating a one year journey of creative learning in a nurturing environment.
With a Reggio Emilia inspired environment and located inside the museum, they were presented with projects that embellished their fine motor skills and self-expression, while preparing them with Kindergarten readiness skills.
