Texas Seaport Spring Break

Join the Texas Seaport Museum this March for our Seaport Spring Break workshop series. Classes are limited to 20 people and are free with general admission to the Texas Seaport Museum, Pier 22 Harborside. Courses are held dockside unless otherwise noted and begin at 11:30 a.m.

SEAPORT SPRING BREAK SCHEDULE

March 9
Sailor’s Knots: Figure 8 Bracelets (30 min)

Come try your hand at some fancy work! This class will focus on the more decorative knots you see aboard ELISSA. Participants will tie their own Figure 8 bracelet to take home!

 

March 10
Set a Sail (Max 15)
(45 min)

What life was like for a sailor in the 1800s? Join our volunteer crew in setting a sail at dock! Learn the language of seafaring, how to work as a group, and what it took to make it out at sea!

 

March 11
Meal Time on the Main
(30 min)

Experience food on the high seas. This program discusses the various cooking methods while at sea, as well as a hardtack cooking class! Who can make the best tasting biscuits?

 

March 12
Sing like a sailor!
(30 min)

Working as a team and pulling lines together was an important part of being a 19th-century sailor and music kept the beat! As a group, we’ll learn some traditional sea shanties and how they were used aboard ships throughout the ages

 

March 13th
Let’s Talk Trash
(1hr)

ELISSA and her crew are supporters of NAMEPA’s PLASTIC PLEDGE! This program will discuss marine debris and how you can help save our oceans from more pollution. We will be making reusable recycled T-shirt Bags for you to take home. Please bring an old adult-sized T-shirt.
