*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 04/08/2018
The Attwater's Prairie Chicken (APC) is a native Texan bird that's nearly extinct in the wild.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

The Houston Zoo helps save this rare animal, including raising APC chicks each spring in behind-the-scenes Zoo hatching areas and releasing young adults at the Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge.

At this Spotlight on Species you can find out all about this unique Texas bird. We'll have activities for kids, and Boomer the APC mascot will be there to teach prairie chicken dance lessons! You can meet with the keepers who raise the chicks of this endangered bird.

This event is free with your paid Zoo admission and is free for Zoo members.
