We are a volunteer organization committed to serving the educational and emotional needs of disadvantaged children and young adults, as well as families in crisis in the greater Houston area

Houston chapter members and friends gathered at Assistance League® of Houston (ALH) on Tuesday, May 13th to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2013-2014 fiscal year. The theme for the meeting was "Dig In - Help Us Grow", a motto reiterated by President Kathi Hilterman as she thanked volunteers for their many hours dedicated to accomplishing and even surpassing the goals set by the organization at the beginning of the year.

After taking care of some end of year business, the chapter took time to reward some of the women who epitomize the theme "Dig In - Help Us Grow". ALH recognized the efforts of our longtime bookkeeper and friend, Eunice Reiter, who has worked with our chapter for over 20 years.

Members also rewarded the commitment of member Leila Gilbert, daughter of Mary Jo Peckham, who has served the chapter well and tirelessly over the years, including serving as chapter president in 1987-88 and working on the Mary Jo Peckham Award Luncheon and Fashion Show since its inception in 1992, by presenting her with the Ada Edwards Laughlin Award.

We also initiated a new award this year, the "Golden Spade Award", which will be presented to members who "dig in and get it done". The inaugural award went to our ALH Thrift Shop co-chair, Jo Pender.

The afternoon concluded with the installation of the Executive Board for 2014-2015, with Paula Wright at the helm as incoming President. We thank all of these women for their dedication and willingness to dig in and help us grow.

Special thanks to chair Gay Craddock and her wonderful team - Dagmar Deason, Linda Smith, and Joanne Tauch - for making this year's Annual Meeting a memorable event
