Follow the money trail toward financial literacy at the Children’s Museum of Houston! April 9 – 15, 2015

WHAT:

If money doesn’t grow on trees, where does it all come from? Learn all about how to earn and manage money during our Bank On It Wonder Week. This fun-filled week focused on financial literacy will have you feelin’ like a million bucks with tons of hands-on activities designed to help you make “cents” of money! 

ON-GOING ACTIVITIES:

  •  Duct Tape Wallets: Save money in style by making a wallet out of duct tape at Junktion.
  • Money Tree: Who says money can’t grow on trees? Create your own currency, then hang it on the money tree at Junktion.
  • Save Now or Spend Later: Count coins and watch the savings add up in a homemade piggy bank at Junktion.
  • Make That Money:  Who do YOU think should be on the dollar bill? Make your own money using relief printmaking techniques at Alexander Art Academy.
  • Honeycombs and Hexagons: Hook hexagons into honeycombs like a busy bee at EcoStation.
  • Honey in the Hive: Hives save honey like banks save money. Build your own hive at EcoStation.
  • Coin Sorter: Design a tool to sort and store your savings at Inventors’ Workshop.
  • Crayon Rock Cycle: Thousands of years ago, rocks were used as money. And some precious gems are still used as currency today. Explore the evolution of rocks using hot water and crayons at Science Station.
  • It’s All About Mohs: Make sense of material science and learn the properties of different rocks using techniques created by the famous scientist Friedrich Mohs at Science Station.
  • Mineral Matching Game: Test your mineral memory while playing an exciting game at Science Station.
  • Movie: How Much is a Million? Learn how to crunch complex numbers like million, billion and trillion with Marvelosissimo the Math Magician in Brown Auditorium.

  • MUSEUM HOURS:  Tues. – Sat.:  10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Sun:  Noon – 6 p.m. Second Saturday of every month opens at 9 a.m. for members.
  • General Museum admission:  $10 per person and $9 for seniors 65+.  Children under one and Museum Members receive free admission.
