Juneteenth Lecture by Naomi Carrier

Naomi Carrier, founder of the Emancipation Trail Association, will give a lecture titled, “Juneteenth is a Celebration, Emancipation is Freedom.” Carrier wrote the narrative for the HCR245, Texas Legislature’s recognition of the Underground Railroad to Mexico. She is the founding director of Texas Center for African American Living History, a non-profit dedicated to Texas history and culture that includes African Americans from the African American perspective.

Photo Credit: The slave cabin mural behind Noami Carrier in this photo is by Ted Elis and was made at Egypt Plantation in honor of a Slave Cabin Sleepover by Joseph McGill in March 2011. This is one of many events chronicled in “Sleeping with the Ancestors.” Carrier helped arrange the event in collaboration with Texas Historical Commission.
