What do highways, skyscrapers, iPads and race cars have in common? They were all built and designed by engineers. As a profession in constant demand, engineering embraces curiosity, tinkering and imagination. Take your creativity to the next level by exploring the industry that shapes the world around us. National Engineers Week is observed from Feb. 22 – 28.
ON-GOING ACTIVITIES:
- Paper Sculptures: Bend, cut and glue paper strips into abstract art in Alexander Art Academy.
- Nest Engineering: Gather natural materials to create a sturdy, homey nest in EcoStation.
- Helicopter Plants:See how plants inspired engineers in designing the helicopter in EcoStation.
- Balloon Engineering: Use an inflated balloon to move a car built by you at Inventors’ Workshop.
- Boomerang: Perfect your spin by making your own flying tool at Junktion.
- Catapult Airplane: Launch a “slingshot” airplane made by you at Junktion.
- Wood Pecking Bird: Make a paper woodpecker peck using rubber bands in Junktion.
- Shape Building: Explore the attributes of shapes and solids in ExxonMobil Math Cart.
- Dangling Spoons: Experiment with sound’s movement using spoons in Science Station.
- Bridge Building: Learn about bridges and put them to the test in Science Station.
- Hoop Gliders: Make a straw soar into the sky in Science Station.
- “Tap Tap Bang Bang” by Emma Garcia: Engineer a story at the Parent Resource Library.
- “Roberto the Insect Architect” Movie: Find out how Roberto becomes a successful architect in Brown Auditorium.

Tues. – Sat.: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Sun: Noon – 6 p.m. Second Saturday of every month opens at 9 a.m. for members.
Price:
General Museum admission: $9 per person and $8 for seniors 65+ and for active duty military personnel. Children under one and Museum Members receive free admission.
