Children's Museum of Houston invites children with Autism to a sensory exclusive event Monday, February 16 at 10 a.m.

The Children’s Museum of Houstonwill host Sensory Friendly Day on Presidents’ Day, Feb. 16. Sensory Friendly Day is an opportunity for kids with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and sensory processing differences to explore the Museum.  This exclusive event will provide a comfortable, protected and accepting environment, allow parents to make connections with other families, and offer new tools and resources.  Doors will be closed to the public.  There will be no music and sound reducing headphones will be available.  Outside food and drinks will be allowed (Fresh Caféwill be closed).

SPECIAL EVENTS:

  • Sensory Shaker:  Shake up fun with colored rice, pompoms, beads and sequins in Kids Hall.
  • Music Therapy Session: Sing, play and move to the music with Board Certified Music Therapists in Tree Top Discovery Room.  Sign up at the Information Booth.
  • Behavior Management:  Learn about behavior management with Board Certified Behavior Analysts in Celebrations Discovery Room.  Sign up at the Information Booth.

 

ON-GOING ACTIVITIES:

  • Artsy Flowers:  Create a beautiful, delicate flower with everyday materials at Junktion.
  • Carp Kites: Show your creativity with a unique work of flowing art at Junktion.
  • Heart Blossoms: Design a piece of art straight from the heart in Junktion.
  • Eric Carle Hearts: Channel children’s book illustrator Eric Carle in Alexander Art Academy.
  • Nature Brushes:  Go back to basics and use nature to make paint brushes in EcoStation.
  • Tree Cookies: Illustrate important milestones in your life as trees do at EcoStation.
  • Spin Art Machine:  Build a wondrous pattern-making machine in Inventors’ Workshop.
  • Dicey Directions: Make your way home in a right turn only world in ExxonMobil Math Cart.
  • Tenzi: Race against the clock to match all ten of your die first in ExxonMobil Math Cart.
  • Salt Painting: Express yourself through color, texture and salt in Science Station.
  • Play-Doh Atoms: Unleash your inner scientist while creating art in Science Station.
  • Shrinky Dinks:  Watch your design shrink in size in Science Station.
  • You Are My Work of Artby Sue DiCicco: Familiarize yourself with breathtaking works of art while reminiscing over what you love about your family at Parent Resource Library.
