Santa is flying into HMNS this holiday season to make sure this year is the best yet, and we’ve come up with a few events and activities that we know you will enjoy. From deeply discounted holiday shopping to having breakfast with the jolly man himself, there is something for everyone. Make your reservation before we sell out! Become a member today! Jingle Tree

November 11th – November 17th
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, as one of Fort Bend’s most beloved events—Jingle Tree, presented by Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital—returns to HMNS at Sugar Land. Jingle Tree features a showcase of beautifully decorated trees and décor, up for bid in a week long, online silent auction. Proceeds support the Museum’s daily operations, expand access to underserved communities and support innovative sensory-friendly programming. From the inaugural Tree Lighting, to exclusive limited-capacity VIP Experiences, and culminating in the countdown at the Festive Finale, join us and decorate the holidays with Natural Science!


 

Holiday Movie Party Featuring Home Alone

Saturday, Dec. 3
Crafts from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Movie starts at 6:00 p.m.

Ever wondered how Christmas would be if you were left all alone? Watch Kevin McCallister navigate that very reality in this holiday classic while enjoying a snack box. Join us in Grand Hall from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. to make your own mini foam stocking and decorate your mini-Christmas tree before the film.

Santa’s Workshop

Sunday, Dec. 4;
Crafts from 10:00 a.m.  – 12:00 p.m.
Moran Lecture Hall

Put your skills to the test and see if you can be Santa’s helper this December! Create a wooden Santa or Rudolph’s burlap ornament to show off on your Christmas tree. That’s not all, stop by Santa’s lap and let him know what you would like this Holiday Season.

Sensory Friendly Hour, 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
During this hour, lights and music will be adjusted for a sensory-friendly environment in the Moran Lecture Hall, where you and your family can take pictures with Santa and create crafts in a calm environment. Please note that there will be a cool-down space available in Classroom 1 across the hall, and the other museum exhibits will NOT be adjusted to be sensory-friendly on this date.

Breakfast with Santa

Dine with Santa this holiday season at HMNS! From fluffy waffles to delicious hot chocolate, we will have plenty of breakfast options for everyone. And don’t forget to snap a picture with your favorite jolly fellow!

Morian Hall of Paleontology

Ho-ho-ROAR! Blast to the prehistoric age this holiday season with HMNS’ very own walking dinosaur, Fluffy. Though Santa won’t be around for this festivity, you can enjoy an array of crafts and fun activities for the entire family, including a glittery mini dinosaur ornament, balloon artist, DJ and a cotton candy machine!


Cookies with Santa

Saturday, Dec. 17;
Cookie Decorating from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Moran Lecture Hall

Decorate your cookie and eat it too! Show Santa your delicious masterpiece while he checks if you are on the nice list this year.

Lecture – The Mystery of the Christmas Star

Tuesday, Dec. 13, 6:30 p.m.

IN-PERSON EVENT – Journey back over 2,000 years to Bethlehem as we seek to discover a scientific explanation for the star the wise men followed to find the baby Jesus.
Join VP of Astronomy, Dr. Carolyn Sumners on this modern retelling of the Christmas story is sure to charm and captivate audiences of all ages.


 

Trains Over Texas

November 18 – January 8

Create holiday memories by travelling across Texas by model railroad in this scratch-built O-scale model. The multiple trains crisscrossing the state will visit important and unique places in the state’s geology and physiography. Destinations include oil country salt domes, prairies and wetlands of the Texas coast and state and national monuments such as Enchanted Rock, Pedernales Falls, The Balcones Escarpment and Big Bend National Park. Along the routes to these geologic wonders the trains will also pass-through Galveston, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio with other surprises along the route.
This exhibit (the size of a tennis court) is the largest indoor O-scale model railroad in Texas. Don’t miss what is sure to become a holiday tradition!
Included with permanent exhibit hall admission.
