Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
Parents are invited to accompany children ages 6 & up to read a book aloud to a furry friend for 15 minute intervals. Children gain confidence in their reading skills while helping shy homeless pets become more comfortable with people.
We encourage kids to bring their favorite books to share with the animals, but we also provide a few dozen animal-themed books that children can choose to read from as well.
Children are invited to sit outside a pet’s kennel space and read calmly using soft voices and making no sudden movements for a period lasting no longer than 15 minutes per pet while being supervised by a parent or guardian. All shelter pets will remain inside their kennel space.
Each child must be registered. Half-hour shifts available most Thursday’s after-school. To register your child, go online to https://www.cap4pets.org/storybook
Our furry residents crave attention, and this program provides it in a comfortable and non-threatening manner. This activity also allows kids ages 6 & up to earn service hours for school, scouts, etc. Adult supervision is required at all times.
